Advisory & Expert Calls – MSK MedTech, Digital Health & Clinical Adoption

This page is for companies, investors, and research teams seeking practical clinical insight on musculoskeletal (MSK) medtech and digital health solutions, from early diligence to real-world implementation. I provide independent clinical input on clinical feasibility, evidence quality, validation strategy, and adoption risks. For clinical appointments, please use the “Prendre rendez-vous” section of the website. For a full CV and publications, see “À propos”.

About me

Orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeon based in Brussels. I serve as Associate Head of Service in Orthopaedic Surgery at CHU Brugmann and as a Foot and Ankle Surgery Consultant at Hôpital Erasme. Before Belgium, I practised in Luxembourg and Portugal across public and private settings, including elite sport (former physician for Sport Lisboa e Benfica U19).

I hold a PhD in Bioengineering (cum laude) from Instituto Superior Técnico (University of Lisbon). My work sits at the intersection of orthopaedics and engineering, with a focus on minimally invasive surgery, sports medicine, clinical outcomes and endpoints, and the clinical validation and implementation of technology-enabled MSK care (including computational modelling, 3D printing, and AI-enabled tools). I have authored 30+ peer-reviewed publications and contributed to reference textbooks in orthopaedic surgery and sports traumatology.

Who I work with

  • MedTech and digital health teams developing MSK devices, software, or AI-enabled tools
  • PE / VC investors conducting clinical and adoption diligence
  • Clinical and research groups planning validation, translation, or deployment

Questions I help answer

Clinical diligence (PE / VC)

  • What is the unmet clinical need—and for whom?
  • How strong and transferable is the existing evidence?
  • Key clinical risks, complications, and failure modes?
  • What will realistically drive—or block—adoption?

Clinical validation & trial design

  • Endpoints and comparators
  • Inclusion/exclusion criteria and feasibility
  • Surgeon workflow constraints and learning curves

EU hospital implementation

  • OR workflow integration and training requirements
  • Procurement dynamics and stakeholder alignment
  • Real-world barriers to adoption in EU systems

AI / ML in MSK

  • Data requirements and dataset pitfalls
  • Validation and generalizability risks
  • Deployment, safety, and ethical considerations

Biomechanics & modelling

  • Finite element analysis and biomechanical modelling
  • Translating modelling outputs into product and clinical claims

Compliance and boundaries

Discussions are conducted at a general, non-confidential level. I do not disclose confidential patient information, employer data, or proprietary company information. Advisory work does not constitute clinical care.
